Final Fantasy XIV is a subscription-based MMORPG of Square Enix. After the rather disastrous start in 2010, Square Enix worked hard to make a complete makeover of the game and released it as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in 2013. It was a huge triumph and got them not only the previous players back, but also attracted many new players.
The journey begins with the creation of the character. The player chooses the race, gender, tribe and deity and afterwards customises the appearance of the character. For this, he has quite a lot of options available. The races he can choose are Elezen, Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo’te, Roegadyn, and since the release of Heavenwards also Au Ra. After the player is satisfied with his character, he can choose his starting point. This decision influences his intro and of course the nation he experiences first.
Final Fantasy XIV comes with a whole bunch of awesome features. Other games still force the player to create alts to enjoy other classes. In this game, the player can enjoy every class with the “main” character. To change a class, the player has to switch the character’s weapon. Saving the equipment helps to change quickly and effective between the classes. Another feature that comes with the multiple classes is the possibility to use the skills of other classes. Due to this variety of gameplay styles, players can choose the fitting one for himself and advance to one of many jobs like a thief becoming a ninja through skills of a specific other class. The downside of a job is that players are restricted to the skills of two classes.
The world of Eorzea comes with gorgeous visuals that most other MMOs can’t compete with. The landscape invites the player to have a great time there. The combat spells and abilities look wonderful, and the details of the character itself are impressive. This is also seen on the clothing of the characters where even the jewellery is seen and detailed. In this impressive world is a great story embed. It can easily compete with top-tier RPGs which is quite good for an MMO. Through a lot of quests, the game tells the story of the nation he is in and leads him right into the centre of the countless conflicts. The player follows in the footsteps of the “Warriors of Light” to fight against the bestial primals and te second rise if the Garlean Empire.
