WildStar is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG that has some Sci-Fi elements mixed in. It comes along with classic features of an MMORPG, combined with the action-oriented combat found in games like Tera and Neverwinter, and a unique humour. The game obviously doesn’t take itself to heavy.
The goal of the players is it to explore the planet Nexus and make it inhabitable for the player’s faction. At the beginning, he can choose between the two factions Exile and Dominions. Both claims to have found the planet and wants to claim it for themselves. Problem is, the planet itself isn’t really fond of this. The players await many challenges and a rather dangerous environment.
After choosing the faction, the player can decide between six classes and four different paths. The classes are Warrior, Spellslinger, Esper, Engineer, Stalker and Medic. Even though the classes are clearly defined, they all have the possibility to take on multiple roles. Therefore, it is hard to go wrong with any selection. They can all dish out some decent damage while supporting the group as a Tank or Healer. The limitation comes with the Limited Action Set system that only allows up to eight skills at a time. It all revolves around upgrading those skills to the best use possible. One of the ways to do so is the AMP system where players can distribute their talent points. Some of them even need some physical items to be able to activate them.
The Path system provides the player with additional content. It is a good distraction that rewards the player and makes it more interesting to stop for a while and explore the landscape. The player can choose between Settlers, who’s focus is to make the planet inhabitable, the Soldiers, that exterminates threats, the Scientists, that analyses all fauna and flora on the planet, and the Explorers, who explores the planet and seek the secrets of the planet.
Another exciting part of the game is the crafting system. It can be rewarding but also frustrating. The player as ha plane where he has to place the ingredients. Only through the right placement, it is possible to get the item one seeks. Otherwise, different items could be found. It can be very complicated at times, especially when the crafting talents and tech trees are added. But through its depth and interactive element, it can be very rewarding.
