Wizard101 is a fantasy MMORPG from KingsIsle Entertainment. It is about a wizard school where the player, mostly Kids, take the role of a wizard and learn magic.
The Ravenswood Academy, the wizard school of the game, draws many ideas and similarities from the popular franchise Harry Potter, while still creating something new and giving a feeling of being unique without being a make over.
The player can create a character and customise it to his likings. The name of the character consists of a first name and a two-parted last name. Afterwards, the player can take part in a quiz to determine which part of the school fits them the best or they can select it manually. That way they have the possibility to play with their friends or on their own.
As a young wizard, the player has to do quests and go on errands to earn skills, as well as new spells, equipment and gold to buy new things. The spells, a player can learn, sometimes have a weird humour to it. One of them can make the opponent release farts for example. The spells itself are represented through some kind of magical trading cards. Those show a graphic of the spell as well as the representing magic school. After they are released, they mostly bring up a form of cartoon image. Those images blast the enemy with sparkles and magic clouds.
The game can be downloaded for free. The first part is also free of charge, but for most parts of the game has the player to pay. There are different kinds of subscription, depending on who is playing it and how they want to play it.
